2018 House Hop

Almost sold out! Ticket sales close on 9/16/18 at 8pm!

We are delighted to announce the date of our annual signature event, the WNC House Hop, sponsored this year by The Shanahan Group! This not-to-miss evening is set for Saturday, September 22, 6:30-11:30 pm! It will be here before you know it, so book your babysitter now!  (Buy Tickets)

What is the WNC House Hop? The House Hop is a progressive event, starting with everyone together at the first home for a cocktail party and to toast to the fun night ahead. It is then followed by smaller dinner parties at various members' home. The night concludes with everyone reconvening at a 3rd home for dessert to cap off a fantastic night. It's a great way to meet new people, as well as enjoy the company of old friends.

How can you be more involved this year? As we do each year, we are looking for WNC members to host the smaller dinner parties. Hosting is super EASY, FUN, and doesn't require much work at all. You decide how many people to host (4-12+) and provide a main course. Your guests will then bring the sides and wine. The House Hop fees are waived for hosts. If you are interested in hosting one of the dinner parties, please email the House Hop Chairs: Erin Rose (erinrose818@gmail.com) and Michela Capobianco (michela.capobianco@gmail.com).

Is your membership in good standing? Lastly, the House Hop is for WNC members only so please make sure your WNC membership is in good standing now before registration opens. You can join or renew your membership by going to www.winchesterneighbors.com.

House Hop Chairs:  Feel free to contact the House Hop Chairs, Erin Rose (erinrose818@gmail.com) and Michela Capobianco (michela.capobianco@gmail.com), with any questions.

Winchester Neighbors Book Club

We will be meeting at Karen Hellmich's home, 11 Manchester Road, on Monday, January 23 at 7:30. We will be reading A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman published in 2013. Backman is a Swedish columnist, blogger and writer.

"A feel-good story in the spirit of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand, Fredrik Backman’s novel about the angry old man next door is a thoughtful exploration of the profound impact one life has on countless others.  Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him “the bitter neighbor from hell.” But must Ove be bitter just because he doesn’t walk around with a smile plastered to his face all the time?

Behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents’ association to their very foundations."

Our next meeting at Leigh Hurd's home will be on Monday, March 6 at 7:30.  We will be reading the beloved classic, The Secret Garden published in 1911 by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

"When orphaned Mary Lennox comes to live at her uncle's great house on the Yorkshire Moors, she finds it full of secrets. The mansion has nearly one hundred rooms, and her uncle keeps himself locked up. And at night, she hears the sound of crying down one of the long corridors.

The gardens surrounding the large property are Mary's only escape. Then, Mary discovers a secret garden, surrounded by walls and locked with a missing key. One day, with the help of two unexpected companions, she discovers a way in. Is everything in the garden dead, or can Mary bring it back to life?"

Best,

Jeanne
